Municipality of Agios Nikolaos approves hiring for long-term unemployed
The Municipality of Agios Nikolaos has approved the hiring of nine individuals through an employment program targeting long-term unemployed persons aged 55 to 67. The new hires will support three key departments: Administrative Services, Environment, and Construction.
Specifically, the Administrative Services department will receive five employees, including cleaning staff, a postal worker, and a driver. The Environment department will add one cleaning staff member for outdoor areas, while the Construction department will hire a painter, a scaffolding worker, and a construction worker. The program lasts 12 months with a possible 12-month extension, with DYPA subsidizing 75% of costs up to 750 euros per month.
Beyond immediate wages, the program offers significant benefits regarding social security. For workers nearing retirement age, the potential two-year period of employment provides critical insurance time that can impact future pension eligibility, although participation does not guarantee automatic retirement rights.
