Municipality of Athens launches Athens ESG Awards

The Municipality of Athens has launched the Athens ESG Awards, a new annual initiative designed to implement Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles within the city's daily operations and local economy. The program aims to move ESG from theoretical compliance to practical application by recognizing excellence among public administration, businesses, and citizens.

A primary focus of the initiative is supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). To reduce complexity and costs for businesses lacking specialized staff or significant financial resources, the municipality will provide digital tools for guidance, self-assessment, and the free creation of sustainability reports.

Athens Mayor Haris Doukas stated that the municipality is pioneering this effort in the country to promote businesses with positive social impacts and high standards of transparency. The first awards ceremony is scheduled for December 15, with the application process expected to begin in October.
