Municipality of Domokos to hold historical commemorations in Italy

The Municipality of Domokos is participating in a series of commemorative events in Italy scheduled for late September 2026. These events honor the historical memory of the Garibaldian volunteers who fought alongside the Greek people during the Battle of Domokos in 1897.

On September 25, a conference titled ‘Italian and Greek Risorgimento: between social engagement and transnational volunteerism’ will be held in Rivoltella, Desenzano del Garda. Co-organized by the Municipality of Domokos, the Cultural Association ‘Faro Tricolore’, and the National Association of Garibaldian Veterans and Descendants (ANVRG), the conference will feature academic researchers from Greek and Italian universities discussing cross-border mobility, armed volunteerism, and the Italian-Greek connection during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

On September 28, the event ‘Stone Memories between Romagna and Thessaly’ will take place in Castel Bolognese. This ceremony includes a formal tribute at the local cemetery to honor those who fell during the Battle of Domokos.
