Municipality of Ioannina partners with police to support homeless citizens

The Municipality of Ioannina is enhancing cooperation with the Hellenic Police to improve support for individuals experiencing homelessness. Sofia Markoula, Deputy Mayor for Social Policy, Public Health, and Active Aging, met with Police Director Vasilis Lagos to discuss better coordination between municipal social services and police patrols.

The goal is to ensure that when police identify citizens living on the streets, they can immediately inform municipal services. This allows social workers to approach individuals and provide information regarding available support, specifically the municipality’s Homeless Shelter. The municipality has also called upon citizens to report individuals in need of assistance to local authorities.
