Municipality of Lake Plastira to develop forest recreation areas
The Municipality of Lake Plastira has secured a €430,000 budget for the ‘Green Routes’ project, aimed at creating two organized forest recreation areas. The initiative is part of the ‘Thessaly 2021–2027’ program, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI) strategy for Agrafa.
The project is divided into two main sub-projects. The first focuses on the ‘Diaselo’ area in Mesenikola, which includes the development of a central recreation space, paved paths, parking, a wooden kiosk, a stone fountain, pergolas, and an observatory. The second sub-project targets the ‘Stavros’ area in Kerasia, involving the creation of entrances, parking, sports areas, outdoor dining and relaxation spaces, and educational zones.
Local officials state that these developments are intended to upgrade the natural environment and diversify the local tourism product by promoting activities such as hiking, cycling, and nature observation. The project also seeks to strengthen environmental education infrastructure in connection with local forest schools.
