Municipality of Soufli pilots chemical-free mosquito control technology

The Municipality of Soufli is piloting the Mosqitter Grand, a chemical-free mosquito control system designed to reduce insect nuisance for residents and tourists during the summer months.

The technology works by simulating a human presence to attract female mosquitoes, which are then trapped in a specialized internal bag. Each device is capable of covering an area of approximately 8 stremmata (roughly 2 acres).

After three weeks of operation in the city center, Deputy Mayor of Technical Works Dimitris Droutsas reported an estimated 25% to 30% reduction in mosquito presence. The municipality plans to continue the trial until the end of summer to evaluate whether to purchase additional units for other settlements in the region.
