Municipality of Thebes intensifies mosquito control to combat West Nile Virus
The Municipality of Thebes has announced an intensification of mosquito control measures to combat the West Nile Virus. Following a coordination meeting involving Deputy Mayor Anastasios Kamoutsis, representatives from the company Bioeparmoges, and local community presidents, officials decided to scale up spraying and sampling operations.
The program targets both rural and urban environments, including streams, canals, flooded areas, and man-made sources like storm drains and pits. Key areas for these interventions include the communities of Mouriki, Ypato, Platanaki, Eleona, and Neochoraki, as well as parts of Plataea and Thiva.
In addition to the weekly scheduled program that has been in place since March 2026, emergency interventions are being conducted through new mapping and sampling to identify new mosquito breeding sites. Local authorities are monitoring mosquito populations daily and have advised citizens to follow individual protection measures.
