Municipality of Thermi to relaunch Municipal Police

The Municipality of Thermi has announced the reinstatement of its Municipal Police department, effective September 1, 2026. This marks the return of the service after a 13-year hiatus following its previous abolition.

The new department will initially operate with a force of 18 officers and will be headquartered in Neo Rysio. Operating under Law 5003/22, the unit's stated objective is to improve the quality of life for citizens and visitors by maintaining public order and legality rather than focusing solely on fines and sanctions.

The department's responsibilities include overseeing the Road Traffic Code, managing the occupation of public spaces, regulating advertising, ensuring cleanliness and environmental protection, monitoring animal welfare, and supervising outdoor commerce and local markets.
