Munitions India Executive Director arrested in ₹500-crore bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Anil Kumar, Executive Director of Munitions India Limited (MIL), along with two other individuals in connection with a bribery and information leak investigation. The case involves allegations that Kumar accepted illegal gratification in exchange for official favors and the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive defence production and procurement information.

The investigation centers on a ₹500 crore ammunition supply contract awarded to SMPP Limited, a private firm specializing in ammunition and drone technology. The CBI arrested Ashish Kansal, CEO and Director of SMPP Limited, and B. Harshavardhan, Anil Kumar’s brother. The agency alleges that Kansal maintained regular contact with Kumar to secure business advantages through the contract.

During searches in Pune, Mysuru, Bengaluru, and Delhi, investigators recovered approximately ₹2.23 crore in cash and incriminating documents. The FIR further alleges that Kumar attempted to conceal illicit proceeds by routing them through his wife, brother, and other relatives. The CBI stated that the disclosure of sensitive information could potentially compromise national strategic and security interests.
