Munster Rugby CEO Ian Flanagan to step down
Munster Rugby has announced that Chief Executive Ian Flanagan will step down from his position at the end of October. The decision was confirmed in a joint statement with the IRFU, noting that Flanagan informed the Munster Rugby Board of his intention to depart.
Flanagan has led the province since 2019. During his tenure, he played a central role in the development of the €7.3 million Centre of Excellence in Cork. His departure comes amid an ongoing independent internal review regarding the organization’s governance, following a turbulent period that included staff redundancies and the cancellation of a contract for Roger Randle.
Munster Rugby chair Ger Malone expressed gratitude for Flanagan’s dedication and commitment to the province. Flanagan described leading his home province as ‘a huge privilege’. An interim CEO will be appointed in the coming weeks, with a formal recruitment process for a permanent successor to follow.
