Irish rugby clubs secure opening Champions Cup victories

Irish rugby clubs have secured significant opening victories in the Investec Champions Cup. Leinster achieved a bonus-point 48-23 win against Clermont Auvergne at Stade Marcel-Michelin. Despite trailing 16-15 at halftime, Leinster dominated the second half with tries from Sam Prendergast, Dan Sheehan, Jack Conan, and Tommy O’Brien. However, the win was tempered by an injury to Jack Conan, who was forced off after scoring.

In Galway, Connacht secured a high-scoring 45-36 victory over Saracens at Dexcom Stadium. The match featured thirteen tries, with Connacht’s Ciaran Frawley scoring twice in a man-of-the-match performance.

Munster is also preparing for its Champions Cup campaign, with an upcoming match against Racing 92 scheduled at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Recent matches involving Munster and Racing 92 have included tributes to the late Anthony Foley.
