Munster to honor Anthony Foley in Champions Cup match against Racing 92

Munster will host Racing 92 at Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork this Saturday for a Champions Cup match that carries significant emotional weight. The fixture serves as a ten-year tribute to former Munster captain and coach Anthony Foley, who passed away in 2016.

Foley died of an acute pulmonary edema caused by heart disease in a hotel in Suresnes, France, just hours before Munster was scheduled to play Racing 92 in the European Cup. The upcoming match marks the first time the two clubs have met since that tragedy. A symbolic moment of remembrance is planned for halftime at the stadium, which has a capacity of approximately 45,000.

Foley, known as ‘Axel’, was a central figure in Irish rugby, earning 62 caps for Ireland and leading Munster to two European titles in 2006 and 2008. Ticket sales for the match have already exceeded 20,000.
