Munyaradzi Kereke dies in Harare after reporting judge
Munyaradzi Kereke, a former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe advisor and Bikita West legislator, has died at the age of 54. He passed away in the early hours of Tuesday at The Avenues Clinic in Harare. While his family has not officially confirmed a cause of death, reports indicate he may have suffered a stroke following his release from prison.
Kereke’s death follows his recent decision to file a formal complaint against Supreme Court Justice George Mutandwa Chiweshe. In a report addressed to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza, Kereke alleged “gross misconduct and criminal abuse of duty” by the judge. The allegations included claims of financial misconduct and improper relationships involving two of Kereke’s wives during his 10-year prison sentence.
The Judicial Service Commission was in the process of preparing an investigation into the matter. While other judges involved in Kereke’s previous appeal were cleared, Justice Chiweshe had been referred for disciplinary proceedings. Kereke had stated he delayed filing the complaint until after his release from prison for “strategic necessity.”
