Murali Sreeshankar wins Asian Games silver despite ankle injury

Indian long jumper Murali Sreeshankar has secured a silver medal at the Asian Games despite sustaining an ankle injury during the competition. Sreeshankar, ranked 14th in the world, recorded a second-round jump of 8.07m. He was forced to withdraw from his final two attempts after injuring his ankle during his fourth attempt.

Sreeshankar’s father and coach, S Murali, confirmed that the injury is not serious and that the athlete will focus on rest and rehabilitation. Because the competitive season has concluded, the athlete has time to recover before the next season. The family is currently considering rehabilitation options, including potentially returning to Doha, where Sreeshankar previously underwent successful knee surgery.

In the men’s long jump event, China’s Shi Yuhao won the gold medal with a jump of 8.17m, while Uzbekistan’s Anvar Anvarov took the bronze with an effort of 8.06m.
