Murang’a police investigate fatal shooting at Del Monte farm

Police in Murang’a are investigating the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Peter Kimani Gitau at a Del Monte farm. According to police reports, the incident occurred around 4:00 a.m. on August 22, 2026, when Gitau allegedly shot at the farm while attempting to steal pineapples.

Gitau was escorted to Kenol Hospital by colleagues after sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The incident triggered protests by agitated youths in Makenji, an area bordering the farm. Protesters blocked the Thika-Kenol highway, disrupting traffic and reportedly demanding money and robbing motorists.

Police responded to the demonstrations and managed to disperse the crowd, restoring normal traffic flow. Armed officers have been deployed to the farm to maintain order, and investigations are ongoing to determine the identity of the person who fired the shot.
