Medical developments and patient struggles reported across Turkey
In Kahramanmaraş, 28-year-old İsmail Yiğit underwent a successful minimally invasive surgery to correct a rare congenital heart condition known as ‘pulmonary vein anomaly’. Yiğit had presented with shortness of breath and fatigue. Medical examinations at Sütçü İmam University Health Application and Research Hospital revealed a hole in his heart and four pulmonary veins that were incorrectly draining into the right side of the heart instead of the left. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kirişci and his team performed the procedure through a 4-5 centimeter incision in the armpit, repairing the hole and redirecting the veins without using artificial materials.
In Antalya, Murat Şeker is seeking medical solutions for a chronic foot wound that has persisted since 2007. Despite undergoing more than ten surgeries and losing parts of his toes, Şeker continues to struggle with mobility and disability. He has expressed a desire for a proper diagnosis and treatment rather than financial aid, noting that he has been unable to maintain steady employment due to his condition.
Additionally, in Muş, 20-year-old Kadir Mendeş has regained increased mobility through the provision of an electric wheelchair. Mendeş, who faced walking difficulties due to diabetes-related complications, received the device through the efforts of local police officer Mustafa Şahin and various donors.
