Murat Şenkul criticizes government response to price gouging

Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul has criticized the government's approach to combating price gouging, specifically targeting the recent call for citizens to report inflated prices. Şenkul noted that a year ago, the government introduced a digital labeling application intended to allow real-time monitoring of all prices, questioning why the responsibility has now shifted to public reporting.

Şenkul attributed current economic difficulties to structural flaws and recent administrative errors, citing a lack of meritocracy in new leadership. He argued that solutions should involve structural changes and market expansion rather than reactive reporting.

As part of his economic vision, Şenkul proposed expanding free port applications and attracting a global technological workforce. He suggested that by implementing a free zone model for remote workers in software and artificial intelligence, the country could secure year-round economic contributions from high-income individuals, similar to the historical economic impact of British retirees.
