Murat Karagilan criticizes Turkey's new peace framework law

Murat Karagilan, a high-ranking official of the PKK, has criticized the framework law passed by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on August 10. While describing the law as a new and valuable step in the history of the Republic, Karagilan argued that it contains significant flaws and omissions.

Specifically, Karagilan noted that the law fails to mention the word ‘Kurd’ or address democratic concerns. He emphasized that the legislation does not include Abdullah Öcalan, whom he described as the architect of the peace process. Karagilan stated that the physical freedom of Öcalan is a necessary prerequisite for the process to move forward. He further remarked that the current issue has been limited primarily to the laying down of arms by rebels, rather than addressing the broader, centuries-old problems facing the Kurdish people.
