Murat Ülker calls for reform of business school curricula
Murat Ülker, a board member of Yıldız Holding, has called for a fundamental reform of business school curricula. He argues that current educational models focus too narrowly on shareholder value, constant growth, and viewing the public as an obstacle to market efficiency.
Drawing inspiration from Andrew J. Hoffman’s book, ‘Business School and the Noble Purpose of the Market: Correcting the Systemic Failures of Shareholder Capitalism’, Ülker suggests that issues such as the climate crisis, income inequality, and wealth concentration should not be viewed as external factors, but as direct consequences of the current global economic order.
He proposes that business education should incorporate topics such as workplace democracy, competition policy, and social investment approaches. The goal, according to Ülker, should be to teach students how to navigate different perspectives and understand the broader societal impact of business decisions.
