Murata Manufacturing develops world's smallest NTC thermistor
Murata Manufacturing has announced the development of the NCU01 series, which it claims is the world's smallest NTC thermistor. Measuring 0.25 x 0.125 mm (0201M size), the new component reduces the mounting area by approximately 60% compared to the company's previous smallest 0402M size model.
Despite the significant reduction in size, the device maintains high-precision temperature detection characteristics, including a resistance tolerance of ±1% and a B-constant tolerance of ±1%. The company achieved this through proprietary ceramic material technology, high-precision processing, and optimized manufacturing processes.
The miniaturization is intended to address the challenges of high-density mounting in modern electronics. Smaller thermistors allow for placement closer to heat-generating components in smartphones, wearable devices, and System in Package (SiP) modules, enabling more accurate and rapid temperature monitoring.
Sample distribution began in October 2026, with mass production scheduled to commence during 2027. The initial lineup will include 100kΩ and 10kΩ resistance models, with further expansions planned.
