MURATS museum in Samugheo acquires historic Sardinian textile collection
The MURATS (Museo Unico Regionale dell’Arte Tessile Sarda) in Samugheo, Sardinia, has enriched its permanent collection through the donation of the Daneu Collection. This collection consists of traditional Sardinian textiles, including items such as affacciadas, bisacce, blankets, and typical clothing.
The collection was originally assembled in the 1920s by Vincenzo Daneu, a Palermo-based antiquarian who documented what was then termed ‘paesana art’. His work helped elevate everyday artisanal textiles into objects of significant aesthetic and historical value within the international antique market.
A new exhibition titled ‘100 anni altrove’, which runs until November 15, 2026, explores this collection. The project is the result of ethno-anthropological research conducted by museum director Anna Rita Punzo and Elisa Bassu, tracing the connection between local textile traditions and the history of collecting.
