Murcia advances regional technology and infrastructure initiatives
The Region of Murcia is pursuing several strategic initiatives involving European funding, technological modernization, and infrastructure management. Regional officials have requested greater flexibility from the European Commission regarding funds for housing and youth employment, proposing the region serve as a pilot site for talent retention and green employment policies.
In terms of public safety and technology, the region is positioning itself as a testing ground for applying artificial intelligence to emergency services, specifically for predictive risk management and improving the '1-1-2' emergency response system. Additionally, the municipality of Blanca has implemented a smart city environmental plan using sensors to monitor air quality and noise pollution in real time.
On the infrastructure front, the city of Murcia has awarded municipal electricity supply contracts totaling over 13 million euros. Respira Energía Mediterránea secured the contracts for public lighting and indoor facilities, while The Yellow Energy will manage energy for external infrastructure such as traffic lights and public fountains.
