Murcia and Andalucía launch intensified summer blood donation drives

The Regional Hemodonation Centre in Murcia, part of the Murcian Health Service, has expanded its summer campaign with more than 140 donation points and mobile units travelling over 10,000 kilometres to maintain a steady supply of blood, plasma and platelets. The centre reported 27,412 donors in the first half of 2026, delivering 22,100 blood donations, 705 plasma units and 257 platelet collections, and estimates a need for 200‑250 blood donations daily during the summer months.

In Andalucía, the health authority activated the "Mi verano salva vidas" campaign to counter typical seasonal drops in donations. The plan includes dozens of extra collection events across provinces such as Málaga, Cádiz, Huelva and Almería, extended opening hours, climate‑controlled sites and coordinated transfusion planning. More than 75% of the collected blood is earmarked for cancer treatment, surgeries, transplants and other urgent medical needs.
