Murcia President requests increased coastal security against migrant smuggling

Fernando López Miras, the President of the Region of Murcia, has formally requested that Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez increase security measures along the regional coastline. In a letter sent to the central government, López Miras called for a reinforcement of Guardia Civil personnel and maritime resources to combat human trafficking mafias.

The request follows a recent surge in migrant arrivals, with the regional president noting that several speedboats reached the shore in broad daylight over a four-day period without being intercepted by security forces. López Miras expressed concern that the current response is insufficient to prevent organized crime from operating, citing a growing sense of social alarm and insecurity in the region.
