Murcia residents appeal closure of road between Javalí Nuevo and Javalí Viejo

More than 1,100 residents have signed a petition supporting a legal appeal against the Murcia City Council's authorization to close the road connecting the districts of Javalí Nuevo and Javalí Viejo.

Local council presidents María Jesús Barquero and Joaquina Hellín filed the appeal, which demands the immediate revocation of the municipal authorization, the halting of construction works, and the reopening of the path near the Fábrica de la Pólvora. The residents argue that the closure affects daily mobility and that no safe pedestrian alternative was established before the decision was made.

The representatives are calling for a dialogue table involving the City Council, the operating company, municipal boards, and neighborhood representatives to find a solution. The closure was reportedly discovered by participants in a local race who encountered unexpected fencing on a previously authorized route. Critics have also noted a lack of communication from the municipal government regarding the decision.
