Murcia to host international grape symposium and Huerta Week

The region of Murcia will host two significant events focused on its agricultural and cultural heritage. From September 28 to October 2, the XI International Table Grape Symposium (TIGS 2026) will bring together over 600 professionals from five continents to discuss global challenges such as water efficiency, climate change, regenerative agriculture, and genomic techniques.

Murcia is a leading producer of seedless table grapes in Europe, accounting for over 90% of Spain's production. Through the work of the Murcian Institute for Agricultural and Environmental Research and Development (Imida) and the Itum initiative, 20 new seedless varieties have been developed, which are currently cultivated in 11 countries.

Additionally, the Murcia City Council will hold the XI Huerta Week from October 3 to 11. Under the theme ‘The Huerta of Murcia: a living legacy’, the event features over 50 free activities including gastronomy, environmental routes, and cultural presentations. This year’s program emphasizes decentralization, extending activities to 13 local districts to promote local biodiversity, traditional irrigation networks, and ‘km 0’ gastronomy.
