Refit Buzi's Roskovec attack ends with suicide after police standoff

On 24 July 2026, 35‑year‑old Refit (also reported as Nertil) Buzi entered the home of Kosta and Belere Plaku in the Vidhisht district of Roskovec, Albania, armed with a shotgun. He shot Kosta Plaku dead, wounded his wife Belere Plaku who later died in hospital, and seized their 24‑year‑old daughter Rozalinda Plaku.

Albanian police and the special unit RENRA surrounded Buzi’s vehicle and conducted negotiations for several hours. During the standoff they rescued Rozalinda unharmed and extracted her from the scene. Buzi repeatedly refused to surrender; after the negotiations collapsed he turned the gun on himself and died inside his car.

The incident sparked criticism of authorities, as Buzi had previously been under house arrest and had issued repeated threats against the family. Experts described his behavior as that of a stalker who persisted despite police orders. The funerals of Kosta and Belere Plaku were held later that week, and Buzi’s burial was scheduled for the following Sunday.
