Mureș libraries transformed into digital hubs via PNRR funding

Sixteen public libraries in Mureș County, Romania, have been transformed into digital hubs following the completion of a project funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Coordinated by the Mureș County Library, the initiative utilized 437,000 euros in non-reimbursable funding to modernize local infrastructure and technology.

Fourteen of the libraries were equipped with advanced technical tools, including PC systems, laptops, tablets, video cameras, podcast kits, LED projection screens, and 3D printers. Two locations, the Dâmbu branch in Târgu Mureș and the Adămuș Communal Library, also underwent significant infrastructure improvements, such as renovation and expansion. The Mureș County Library established a central makerspace featuring specialized equipment like digital embroidery machines, laser cutters, and thermal presses.

Beyond hardware, the project focused on digital education. Through the DigitalStars training program, 3,078 citizens obtained digital competency certificates, exceeding the original target of 2,500. Additionally, information activities reached more than 5,000 people across the county.
