Murgul residents protest cyanide leaching pools

Members of the Murgul Siyanüre Hayır Platform, along with political representatives, mayors, and local citizens, held a march in the Murgul district of Artvin to protest cyanide leaching pools. The demonstration moved from Yeni Cami to Murgul Square, where participants issued a press statement against the mining practices.

Görkem Durmuş, a member of the platform's executive board, stated that the environmental struggle intensified in 2014 when Cengiz Holding began constructing the cyanide leaching pools. Durmuş emphasized that the community seeks to protect their nature rather than prioritize financial gain.

Murgul Mayor Mehmet Yıldırım and Artvin Mayor Bilgehan Erdem also addressed the crowd, highlighting the long-standing resistance of the local population and the potential dangers posed to the future of the region.
