Muro Lucano celebrates San Gerardo Maiella's 300th anniversary
Muro Lucano will host significant regional celebrations on September 2 to mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of San Gerardo Maiella, the patron saint of Basilicata. The event includes religious processions, a solemn mass presided over by Archbishop Davide Carbonaro, and the traditional handing over of the city keys to the saint's effigy.
A central part of the ceremony is the ritual of the Ring of San Gerardo. Twelve newly elected mayors from various Basilicata municipalities—including Accettura, Acerenza, Castronuovo Sant’Andrea, Corleto Perticara, Filiano, Francavilla in Sinni, Grottole, Lauria, Salandra, Sant’Arcangelo, Sarconi, and Tursi—will receive the ring. The ring serves as a symbol of unity, belonging, and fraternity among the communities of the region, reinforcing the ties between local institutions and citizens.
