Murrumburrah High School students succeed in Merino Wether Challenge

Students from Murrumburrah High School achieved notable success at the AWI NSW School Merino Wether Challenge held in Dubbo. Six students from years nine and ten competed with six merino wethers, securing second place for best presented wool and second and third place for overall carcass value within their zone.

The competition involved 68 schools and approximately 600 students divided into four zones, managing a total of 400 wethers. The participating lambs were donated by the Warren-based Egelabra Merino Stud. Students were responsible for feeding, raising, and preparing the animals over a four-month period prior to the event.

Beyond the competition, the program provides students with workshops regarding the meat and wool industries and various career opportunities in agriculture. The school plans to continue its involvement in the agricultural show season, with upcoming participation in the Illabo Show in October.
