Musa Anter commemorated in Diyarbakır 34 years after assassination
Journalists, political representatives, and civil society members gathered in Diyarbakır to commemorate Musa Anter on the 34th anniversary of his assassination. The memorial took place in the Seyrantepe neighborhood at the specific location where Anter was killed on September 20, 1992.
Speakers at the event, including members of the Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG), emphasized that the structures behind the murder have not been fully revealed. Participants called for the investigation and clarification of unsolved murders to support peace processes. DFG leadership noted that while Anter was a significant figure in Kurdish journalism and literature, his death was an attempt to suppress the reporting of social realities.
The commemoration also highlighted ongoing challenges faced by the free press, including arrests, detentions, and threats against journalists. Attendees laid carnations at the site of the attack to honor Anter’s legacy as a writer, poet, and social activist.
