MUSA hosts exhibition on Guadalajara's 1970s vitalist movement

The Museo de las Artes (MUSA) in Guadalajara is hosting the exhibition ‘Fenómeno Vital’, which explores the vitalist movement that emerged in the city during the 1970s. The exhibition features more than 30 works from artists who sought to redefine the role of painting by moving away from classical realism toward abstraction, new figurations, and fantastic imagery.

Curator Talien Corona Ojeda noted that the movement aligned with the transition toward modern art and the ‘rupture’ generation seen in Mexico City. The featured artists, including Alejandro Colunga, Luis Balsoto, Ramiro Torreblanca, Jorge Alzaga, and Pepín Hernández, used their work to reflect on the human condition, local symbols, and the social transformations occurring in Guadalajara during the latter half of the 20th century.
