MUSAC to screen documentary on artist Piero Golia’s disappearance

The MUSAC museum in León will host a free screening of the documentary ‘The Vanishing’ on Sunday, October 4, 2026. Directed by Filippo Barbieri, the 26-minute film explores the voluntary disappearance of artist Piero Golia in the United States in 2005.

During his disappearance, Golia renounced the use of credit cards, mobile phones, and other tracking systems to ensure he left no digital footprint. Barbieri’s film uses interviews and testimonies from friends and colleagues to investigate Golia’s journey and the artistic significance of his absence.

The screening is part of the ‘Casi sistemas. Colección MUSAC’ exhibition, which runs until October 18, 2026. The exhibition features three tapestries from Golia’s 2005 series ‘Postcards from the Edge,’ which depict American landscapes that may offer clues regarding his whereabouts during that period.
