Muschio goat found dead at Chico Mendes sanctuary in Campi Bisenzio

Muschio, a male goat that lived at the Chico Mendes animal sanctuary in Campi Bisenzio near Florence, Italy, was reported missing on July 22. After several days of volunteer searches and social‑media appeals, his body was discovered in a nearby field.

Local authorities – the Carabinieri, municipal police, fire brigade and the regional health service – secured the scene and transferred the carcass to the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale for an autopsy. The magistrates are keeping the investigation confidential and have not offered any cause of death. Sanctuary staff described Muschio as a beloved leader of the herd and vowed to seek justice for the animal’s violent end.
