Muse analysis links regular brain training to improved cognitive performance
Muse, a brain-health wearable company, has released a new analysis of home-based EEG data involving 189 users aged 31 to 83. The study, based on approximately 53,000 biofeedback sessions recorded over one year, suggests that the regularity of brain training is a more significant factor in cognitive performance than age or total time spent training.
Findings from the Stroop attention test indicated that individuals in their 60s and 70s who trained consistently outperformed younger individuals who trained irregularly. Specifically, across all age groups, those who trained most weeks reacted 40 to 50 milliseconds faster.
The company utilizes an AI model to estimate ‘brain age’ from resting brain waves, with results typically within ±7 years of actual age. This analysis aims to understand which daily behaviors correlate with a brain that appears younger than its chronological age.
