Musée National Picasso-Paris shortlists teams for €55M garden

The Musée National Picasso-Paris has shortlisted five architecture and landscape teams for a €55 million project to create a premier sculpture garden by 2030. The initiative, known as Picasso 2030, aims to establish a world-leading garden of Picasso sculptures in the historic Marais district of Paris.

The shortlisted teams include Antoine Dufour and Wagon Landscaping; Lina Ghotmeh, Pierre-Antoine Gatier and Florence Mercier Paysagiste; NeM Niney et Marca Architectes and Atelier Jacqueline Osty & Associés; Stanton Williams, Atelier PNG, Vogt and Francesca Torzo; and Drubigny Architecte and Sarah Price Landscapes. An international jury is expected to select the winner by January.

The project involves reuniting the public Leonor Fini square with the museum garden, constructing an 800-square-meter contemporary exhibition hall, and renovating the museum’s historic building to improve access and facilities such as a bookstore and cafeteria. To fund the project, the museum has secured €40 million through the Don Quixote Foundation, which acquired four bronze sculptures. Additionally, the Picasso estate has granted exceptional permission for the creation of eight posthumous bronze casts to be used for financing and display.
