Museo Correr in Venice undergoes major renovation

The Museo Correr in Venice is undergoing a major redevelopment project to transform it into a comprehensive “museum of the city.” The renovation aims to redesign visitor paths, history, functions, and accessibility, with a scheduled reopening in autumn 2027.

The first phase of the project involves an investment of approximately 3.5 million euros to upgrade the architectural and technological systems of the second-floor exhibition area. Key improvements include structural work on climate control to optimize the environment for high-level exhibitions, the removal of architectural barriers through the installation of external and internal elevators, and the opening of the panoramic terrace on the Napoleonic Wing to the public.

Mariacristina Gribaudi, president of the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, stated that the project will return over one thousand square meters of space to both local citizens and international visitors. Venice Mayor Simone Venturini noted that the top floor has been unusable since 2017, and this funding will restore its utility for the city’s most important temporary exhibitions.
