Museo de Cáceres garden renovation to link museum buildings
The historical garden of the Museo de Cáceres is undergoing a major renovation to serve as a central cultural hub for the city. As part of an integral reform of the museum complex, the project aims to use the garden to connect two primary buildings: the Casa de los Caballos and the Palacio de las Veletas.
The renovation is part of an eight-million-euro intervention funded by European Next Generation funds. While the first phase involving the Casa de los Caballos is complete, work continues on the Palacio de las Veletas and the garden itself. The project is contractually scheduled for completion by December 31, 2026.
Raquel Preciados, director of the Museo de Cáceres, described the garden as a “lung” for the institution and a vital connection point between the two structures, which were originally linked by an 18th-century bridge. The goal is to create an extraordinary visitable complex that expands the museum's cultural and educational capacity.
