Museo de Zaragoza acquires woodcut works by Giovanni Berio Ligustro
The Museo de Zaragoza in Spain has officially accepted a donation of woodcut works by the late Italian engraver Giovanni Berio, known professionally as Ligustro. The donation, facilitated by Victor Pasamar Gracia through the Pasamar-Onila Collection, includes pieces specializing in Japanese-style woodcut techniques.
The museum, under the Department of Education, Culture, and Sport of the Government of Aragon, has committed to preserving, studying, and exhibiting these works as part of its Japanese art collection. The museum leadership, including Director Eva María Alquézar, expressed gratitude for the contribution, noting its importance for both Aragonese and Spanish audiences.
Ligustro, who lived from 1924 to 2015 and was based in Imperia, was known for his dreamlike works that bridged Ligurian and Japanese artistic traditions. The acquisition is viewed as a significant recognition of the artist's international legacy.
