Museo del Prado appoints Christine Seidel as Head of Flemish Painting

The Board of Trustees of the Museo Nacional del Prado has appointed Christine Seidel as the new Head of Flemish Painting and the Northern Schools. She will operate within the Deputy Directorate for Conservation and Research.

Seidel, a PhD in art history specializing in Northern European art from the 14th to 16th centuries, succeeds Alejandro Vergara. Vergara will transition to a new role as Head of Academic Content for Canal Prado, the museum’s audiovisual platform.

Seidel previously served as Associate Curator of Renaissance Painting at the National Gallery in London and as Curator of Paintings before 1800 at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. Her professional background includes fellowships at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. She will also curate an upcoming exhibition on Hans Baldung Grien, scheduled to open on November 24.
