Museo Larreta celebrates 64 years in Buenos Aires
The Museo de Arte Español Enrique Larreta in Buenos Aires is celebrating its 64th anniversary. The institution was inaugurated on October 12, 1962, following the acquisition of the property by the Municipality of Buenos Aires after the death of writer and collector Enrique Larreta in 1961.
The residence, located on Avenida Juramento, was originally built around 1886 by architect Ernesto Bunge. Following architectural modifications by Larreta around 1916, the building adopted a style reminiscent of the Spanish Renaissance, featuring white walls and tiled roofs.
The museum's collection, largely assembled during Larreta's diplomatic service in Europe, includes Renaissance and Baroque Spanish art, such as a 1503 altarpiece by the Maestro de Sinovas, ceramics from Talavera de la Reina, and various paintings, sculptures, and furniture. The site also features a notable Andalusian Garden designed in the Hispano-Islamic tradition.
