Museo Nacional de Culturas Populares hosts El Salvador heritage exhibition
The Museo Nacional de Culturas Populares (MNCP) has inaugurated a new exhibition titled “Entre flores y palmas: identidad, comunidad y ritual en Panchimalco.” The showcase highlights the living heritage of the Nahua-Pipil people of El Salvador, specifically focusing on the Cofradía de las Flores y las Palmas.
Presented by the Mexican Secretariat of Culture in collaboration with the Embassy of El Salvador in Mexico, the exhibition features 15 photographs and various artisanal pieces. The collection documents the community organization, textile knowledge, music, dance, and rituals that sustain this traditional celebration.
Emilio Montemayor Amaya, director of the MNCP, noted that the project emphasizes the cultural connections between El Salvador and Mexico through shared expressions such as embroidery, masks, and gastronomy. Salvadoran Ambassador Rosa Delmy Cañas described the exhibition as part of a cultural diplomacy strategy to promote her country's heritage and strengthen historical ties between the two nations.
