Museo Nacional del Cacao hosts Ecuadorian ancestralism exhibition

The Museo Nacional del Cacao in Guayaquil has launched a new exhibition on its second floor designed to reinterpret Ecuadorian ancestralism through the perspectives of nine contemporary artists. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between different generations and strengthen the connection to the country’s cultural legacy.

The exhibition establishes a dialogue between the past and present, focusing on an artistic movement that held significant relevance between the 1950s and 1980s. The works draw inspiration from prominent ancestralist figures, including Enrique Tábara, Luis Molinari, and Araceli Gilbert. Visitors can explore connections to the city’s artistic heritage, ranging from museum-preserved paintings and sculptures to urban murals.

To complement the display, a free lecture titled ‘El arte ancestralista ecuatoriano’ was held, featuring Luis Chávez and Cristian Levi. Mariela Moncayo, president of Arte Barromeraki, noted that the project seeks to rescue and provide new opportunities for artists who may have been overlooked by younger generations.
