Museo Picasso Málaga announces Munch-Picasso exhibition
The Museo Picasso Málaga has announced a major upcoming exhibition titled ‘Munch-Picasso’, scheduled to run from October 30, 2024, through February 28, 2027. The exhibition aims to create an ‘imaginary encounter’ between two titans of modern art, Pablo Picasso and Edvard Munch, exploring how both artists used experimentation to express deep human emotions and obsessions.
Curator Paloma Alarcó noted that while the artists belonged to different generations and possessed divergent artistic strategies, they shared a profound preoccupation with life’s mysteries, including love, desire, illness, death, and existential anguish. The exhibition will feature approximately one hundred works, including paintings, drawings, and engravings.
Several pieces will be on loan from the Munch Museum in Oslo, including the oil painting ‘The Artist and His Model’, painted between 1919 and 1929. The showcase will highlight thematic connections between the two creators, such as their complex and symbolic depictions of the female figure.
