Museo Universitario del Chopo hosts contemporary art exhibitions

The Museo Universitario del Chopo is hosting significant contemporary art exhibitions exploring themes of the body, violence, and social identity.

Erik Tlaseca and Wynnie Mynerva have presented ‘Entrañas’, a large-scale installation and series of paintings. The work uses materials like oxidized metal and fabric to evoke skin and fat, exploring the transition from person to biological matter. The exhibition draws on the Mesoamerican deity Xipe Tótec to examine how the body bears witness to trauma and political displacement.

Additionally, performance artist Regina José Galindo is exhibiting ‘Los peores tiempos posibles’. Her work reflects on the history of war and the subsequent shifts in democracy and feminism in Guatemala. Galindo’s performances often use her own body to address the brutality faced by women, indigenous populations, and the disappeared, serving as a reflection on both past and present social realities.
