Museu do Café in Santos hosts Japanese immigration exhibition

The Museu do Café in Santos is launching the exhibition ‘Sem distância entre nós’, scheduled to run from November 7, 2026, to April 24, 2027. The showcase explores the historical connection between Japanese immigration and the Brazilian coffee industry, tracing back to the arrival of the Kasato Maru ship at the Port of Santos in 1908.

Featuring works by artists Claudia Kiatake and Cristina Suzuki, the exhibition uses materials related to coffee production—such as jute sacks, paper filters, and coffee grounds—to examine themes of memory, identity, and ancestry. Kiatake’s installations can reach up to six meters in length, while Suzuki utilizes photography and family artifacts. A special installation titled ‘Cerimônia do Café’ will be presented in the Salão do Pregão, accompanied by a dedicated performance.

The museum, located in the historic center of Santos, offers a cafeteria for visitors and provides guided tastings and workshops, though these activities may require separate registration or tickets from the general exhibition entry.
