Museum Hexenbürgermeisterhaus releases 2027 calendar
The Museum Hexenbürgermeisterhaus has released its 2027 calendar, which focuses on the institution's own history. The release coincides with a special exhibition titled ‘100 Years – 1000 Questions – Answering Together,’ marking the museum's centenary.
The calendar details the museum's origins, noting that the city of Lemgo purchased the building in 1910/11 following protests against the owners' plan to sell the Weser Renaissance facade. It also addresses the museum's complex history during the National Socialist era, when officials used propaganda to misrepresent the building, such as falsely labeling a cellar as a ‘torture chamber’ to contrast with idealized German hero narratives.
While the theme of witch trials was used as a marketing tool until the 1980s, the museum has shifted toward a more factual approach since the 1990s, clarifying that no authentic torture chamber existed on the premises.
