Museum of Anthropology of Monaco to host lecture on Nordic shamanism

The Museum of Anthropology of Monaco will host scholar Alessandra Orlandini Carcreff for a free public lecture titled ‘Shamanisms and Magic’ on Monday, September 14, 2026. The event, held in the museum’s Louis Barral Room, will explore the spiritual traditions, myths, and ritual practices of Northern European peoples, with a specific focus on the Finno-Ugric world.

Orlandini Carcreff, an associate member of the Germanic and Northern European Worlds research laboratory at the University of Strasbourg, aims to provide a grounded historical and cultural understanding of shamanism. The presentation seeks to move beyond romanticized or exoticized popular imagery to examine shamanism as a complex worldview that shapes the relationship between communities and the natural world.

The lecture will be available for remote attendance for those unable to travel to the Principality.
