Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia launches annual research seminar

The Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia (MuBAV) has launched the Annual Seminar of the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia (SAM), a new initiative designed to deepen the study of its collections. The inaugural seminar, held on September 24 and 25, features twelve specialists from various universities and institutions who will analyze masterworks from the museum’s holdings.

The program is organized into three chronological blocks: from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, from the Baroque to the Late Baroque, and from Goya to the Avant-garde. Researchers will examine specific pieces by renowned artists such as El Bosco, Rubens, Velázquez, Goya, and Sorolla.

A key goal of the SAM is to bridge the gap between academic research and the general public. The findings from these studies will be used to update the museum’s descriptive labels (cartelas), ensuring that visitors benefit directly from the latest scholarly insights during their experience of the permanent collection.
